Antalya, being not only the tourism capital of Turkey, but also a beautiful holiday destination, offers well accessible beaches and along with that the historic quarter Kaleici, nice parks, waterfalls and an interesting nightlife with discos and inspiring concerts. The sights of Antalya are concentrated at the area of the harbour, there you find also the town’s landmark, the Yivli Minare, the “channelled minaret”, built in 1219 under the Seljuks, and the corresponding mosque doesn’t exist anymore. Westbound there is the Alaeddin Mosquewhich was constructed 150 years later under the local dynasty of the Hamidoğulları. Conspicuous are its antique columns, ionic and Corinth capitals make it easy recognizable. The most splendiferous legacy of that era is the entrance of the Karatay Medrese in the old town – the elaborate adornments are a culmination of Seljuk stone cutting art. The Hadrian's Gateis situated a little bit to the east of the old town at the İsmet Paşa Boulevard – the monumental honour gate is one of the few remains of the old city walls.
Shopping you can do at the Atatürk Caddesi nearby, and before you do that you can relax in an ample park with palm trees at a samovar and a gorgeous view over the bay of Antalya. A little outside of town close to the beach Konyaaltı the Archaeological Museum is situated – the somewhat long walk to get there is worthwhile, because the museum congregates important findings from the region and helps to depict the visits in Perge nearby, Aspendos and Side.
The visit to the Beach Park at the beach of Konyaaltı is also recommendable: for a few years now you can combine beach life and enjoyment in cafés, restaurants and recreational facilities of all kinds. Beautiful as well is the spacious AtatürkPark with its impressive glass pyramid, the convention centre of the city and its tropical trees. You can admire even green North Indian parrots – they propagated successfully in the wilderness.
