Centenarian on duty in his hotel in lovely Aegean hotel
Marmara Region / Province of Balıkesir / Ayvalık
Salim Ezer is 101 years old

Salim Ezer ( 101 ) came to Ayvalık district of Balıkesir with his parents during the population exchange. He established his hotel 58 years ago. Salim Ezer is still working hard for the tourism of the lovely Island, Cunda.

Mr Ezer opened his hotel on 1958 6 years before the Island was connected to the mainland on 1964. He left the administration to his children but he still keeps his hands on the business.

Ezer worked as a carpenter for a long time. He visited the village he was born on the Lesbos Island. The Turkish government assigned 15.000 m2 land to them on Cunda. There was a beach and a wharf for the vessels from Ayvalık.

Salim Ezer JR, grandson of the centenarian stated that his Grandfather is the oldest of the Island and Ayvalık.

“ My Grand Father is still concerned with the business. He keeps his hands on us.” said Ezel JR. “ Thanks to him, he built up this business and carried our family up to date. He was a toddler when his family moved from Lesbos to Cunda. There was only a mosque and nothing else during those days.”

The Turkish stars, Hulya Avsar, Hulya Kocyigit, Kadir İnanır, Orhan Gencebay and many others visited their hotel, and stayed, said Ezer. “ Our guest were used to stay at least three weeks. Now we have some repeat guests even from 20 years ago. They visit us and stay for 2-3 days and keep on the connection.”

“ The guests arrived here by boats during the first years of its opening. The bridge and the road was not built in those days.”

“ My Grand Father wakes up earlier than all and has his breakfast first. Then he makes his daily inspection. We owe a lot to him. Thanks God.”
